Yoshi and the Mysterious Book Demo Now Available

Nintendo™ Switch 2 – US, Japan & Europe

Great news, folks! The demo for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is now available via the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2. It’s a great opportunity to try the game before buying it, even though it’s now available in the market.

Plus, the version 1.0.2 update is now available for the full game. This update includes the demo saved data, which will also be in the full game, and fixes some issues to improve the game.

Check out the full details of the update from the official website.

Game Overview

Check out the official game description below via Nintendo.

Play as Yoshi and discover quirky creatures in the pages of a talking book named Mr. E!

Mr. E needs Yoshi’s help to remember all about the creatures living inside his pages. Open him up, explore each habitat, and experiment to learn about the creature that lives there. What does it do? What does it taste like? How does it interact with its environment? How will it react if you smash it, carry it around, or give it a piece of fruit? There’s only one way to find out!

Make discoveries, collect Stars, and…hey, what’s Bowser Jr. doing here?!

As you try new things with each creature, you’ll naturally make discoveries, clear habitats, collect Stars, and unlock more pages to explore. You can even give each critter a name!

But what’s this? Bowser Jr. is also popping up in these habitats?! What could he be up to?

Thanks, Gematsu

So…

Yoshi and The Mysterious Book is still available on our website for US, EU and JP version.

Way of the Sword Release Date Moved Up

PlayStation®5 / Nintendo™ Switch 2 / Xbox Series X – Physical Release

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is arriving earlier than expected. Capcom has officially moved the release date forward from September 25, 2026 to September 4, 2026.

The long-awaited return of Capcom’s legendary swordplay action series is now available to pre-order at Playasia across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X.

This new entry brings players into a dark fantasy version of Edo-era Kyoto, where supernatural clouds of Malice have twisted the city and unleashed demonic Genma into the world of the living.

If you enjoy samurai action, dark fantasy settings, cinematic sword combat, and classic Capcom franchises making a modern comeback, Onimusha: Way of the Sword is one 2026 release worth adding to your collection.

GET THE GAME HERE

Quick Answer: Did Onimusha: Way of the Sword Move Its Release Date?

Yes. Capcom has officially moved the release date of Onimusha: Way of the Sword from September 25, 2026 to September 4, 2026.

The game is available to pre-order at Playasia across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X.

Onimusha Returns Earlier This September

The new Onimusha entry brings Capcom’s legendary swordplay action series back with a dark fantasy adventure set in Edo-era Kyoto.

Players take on the role of Miyamoto Musashi, a samurai caught in a brutal conflict against the Genma. Armed with the Oni Gauntlet, Musashi must fight through demonic enemies, dangerous encounters, and a Kyoto twisted by mysterious clouds of Malice.

For longtime fans, Onimusha: Way of the Sword marks the return of a classic Capcom series after more than two decades. For new players, it offers a fresh entry point into the franchise with modern visuals, cinematic action, and intense sword-based combat.

Why This Update Matters

This release date change gives Onimusha: Way of the Sword a new early September launch window.

Instead of arriving near the end of the month, the game will now launch on September 4, giving fans earlier access to one of Capcom’s major 2026 action releases.

If Onimusha has been on your watchlist since its trailers, demo footage, or latest gameplay showcases, this is the update to note before launch.

NIKKE Summer Event WAVE TO YOU Begins July 2

iOS, Android & PC

Summer arrives with a mysterious twist in Goddess of Victory: NIKKE.

The new summer event, WAVE TO YOU, begins on July 2 after maintenance and runs until July 23, 2026. This year’s event brings two separate groups of characters into one fully voiced story, sending Commanders into a strange sea area, a mysterious island, and a new seasonal adventure packed with danger beneath the tropical setting.

A Summer Trip Pulled Into the Unknown

What starts as a vacation quickly turns into something far more unusual.

During a graduation trip, Marciana and her students head out for a much-needed getaway. At the same time, Cinderella and her group are searching for Hansel and Gretel. However, both groups are suddenly caught by a mysterious whirlpool and pulled into a strange sea area where escape is impossible.

After meeting by chance, the two groups decide to work together and explore the island around them. At first glance, it may look like a tropical paradise, but the deeper they go, the clearer it becomes that this is no ordinary island.

The WAVE TO YOU event is fully voiced, giving players a more cinematic way to experience this year’s summer storyline.

New Limited SSR: Cinderella: Crystal Wave

Banner Period: July 2 – July 23, 2026
Rarity: SSR
Manufacturer: Pilgrim
Code: Iron
Weapon: Machine Gun
Role: DPS

Cinderella: Crystal Wave joins the summer event as a new limited SSR character.

This version of Cinderella attacks using her magical glass shoes, bringing strong offensive pressure to the battlefield. As a DPS unit, she focuses on boosting her own power and dealing heavy damage to multiple enemies.

Her Burst Skill greatly increases her offensive capability while striking several enemies at once, making her a strong pick for Commanders looking for wide damage coverage during intense battles.

New Limited SSR: Marciana: Marine Study

Banner Period: July 9 – July 30, 2026
Rarity: SSR
Manufacturer: Elysion
Code: Iron
Weapon: Assault Rifle
Role: DPS

Marciana: Marine Study joins the event one week later as another limited SSR character.

This summer version of Marciana brings a different DPS style to the field. She becomes stronger as fewer Raptures remain, making her especially useful in boss fights or situations where the battle comes down to the final enemies on screen.

Her kit rewards focused encounters, allowing her to shine when the battlefield has been cleared and only the strongest threats remain.

Event Duration

WAVE TO YOU runs from July 2 after maintenance until July 23, 2026.

Players can take part in the event story, explore the summer event map, and follow the mystery behind the strange island where Marciana’s group and Cinderella’s group have been pulled together.

For Commanders planning their pulls, Cinderella: Crystal Wave will be available from July 2 to July 23, while Marciana: Marine Study will be available from July 9 to July 30.

Prepare for the Summer Banners

Planning to pull for Cinderella: Crystal Wave or Marciana: Marine Study? Commanders playing on iOS can prepare for the WAVE TO YOU event by topping up with iTunes Gift Cards, available now at Playasia.

Make sure to choose the correct card region for your Apple ID before purchase.

A New Summer Story for Commanders

With a fully voiced event, two limited SSR characters, and a story that brings together Marciana, Cinderella, and their respective groups, WAVE TO YOU looks to be one of NIKKE’s major seasonal updates for 2026.

What begins as a graduation trip and a search mission quickly becomes a survival mystery at sea. Commanders can dive into the event after the July 2 maintenance and uncover what waits beyond the whirlpool.

Goddess of Victory: NIKKE – WAVE TO YOU begins today, July 2, 2026.

Hide-And-Seek Gaming Phenomenon ‘Meccha Chameleon’ Hits 10M Sales In 2 Weeks

Since its launch on 9 June, the painting-based hide-and-seek game Meccha Chameleon has exploded in popularity, surpassing the 10 million sales milestone in just two weeks.

This milestone was announced via a post on the game’s Steam page on 26 June, which simply reads “We hit 10 million sales! Thank you so much for your support!”. The game has seen a steady influx of players since its release, amassing an all-time peak of 340,534 concurrent players on the platform at the time of writing.

Created by solo Japanese indie developer lemorion_1224, Meccha Chameleon takes on the popular viral “Prop Hunt” multiplayer format, where hiders have to disguise themselves within a map as objects while seekers hunt them down, except with a painting-based twist. In the game, hiders can’t turn into objects in the environment, instead needing to blend in by posing their characters and painting themselves to match the background. The seekers then have to find these “chameleons” around the map before the time runs out.

With its unique ruleset, this opens up the room for players to get up to all sorts of hilarious antics, as well as opportunities to show off their artistic talents, blending themselves against the most tricky of backgrounds to test their camouflaging skills. The game’s concept was also perfect for live streams and content creation, leading to many popular streamers and YouTubers like SMii7Y and CaseOh hopping on the bandwagon and further increasing the game’s popularity.

Meccha Chameleon currently sits at the sixth spot on Steam’s Most Played Games list, beating out heavy-hitters like Marvel Rivals and Destiny 2. Its success is an even more impressive feat considering the game had little to no marketing prior to launch, and it still managed to outsell massive AAA titles like Resident Evil Requiem and Crimson Desert despite launching solely on the PC.

007 First Light – Review

There are few certainties in life – taxes, death, and James Bond’s love for a martini, shaken, not stirred. The fictional British spy from Ian Fleming’s series of novels, first created in 1953, has seen various iterations over the years, from the early days of actor Sean Connery’s depiction in the 1960s and Daniel Craig’s takeover post-2002, to one of the best-selling Nintendo 64 games of all time, Parker Brothers’ James Bond 007

Interestingly, none of these stories delved into his backstory proper (which, to be fair, maintains the air of mystery for a secret agent), creating an opportunity for 007 First Light to plug the gap. Hailing from the creative minds behind the Hitman franchise, IO Interactive, this outing carries the rakish charm befitting the character, with a refreshing riff on the familiar that establishes a solid framework for its own standalone universe. There are some wrinkles to its bespoke suit, but the balanced mix of cinematic and spycraft action, as well as humour and heart, proves that the first major Bond video game title in more than a decade has earned the licence to thrill.

It’s immediately clear that the studio knows its stuff, starting with the vertical scar running down Bond’s right cheek – a description from his literary origins that was largely absent from the film adaptations. Here, players are introduced to a new, younger version of him as a Royal Navy aircrewman on a clandestine retrieval operation in Iceland, who becomes the sole survivor of an ambush by a private military group. Determined to finish the mission, he gets intercepted by an MI6 instructor through in-ear communication, and after a display of his sharp, whip-fast instincts, is recruited and fast-tracked to the newly revitalised Double-0 programme (despite his penchant for breaking rules).

The opening segment is pretty standard fare, set up as an obligatory tutorial covering stealth, parkour, shooting, and combat basics. What comes next is clever, however, featuring a wet-behind-the-ears Bond in training camp, and presented through a film-like montage that builds on gameplay mechanics and introduces the other characters, including his closest friends, Monroe and Cressida, as well as his grizzly mentor John Greenway, while skipping the tedium of undergoing the entire process over and over again. Both sequences come up to around three hours, which can run a little long for some.

Once field-ready, Q-Lab initiates the gadget fun. Similar to Bond, old company takes on a new shine in 007 First Light, with Q (played by Scottish actor Alastair Mackenzie) cutting a patient, fatherly figure, a fresher-faced, still-no-nonsense M (Priyanka Burford) navigating and harbouring her own uncertainties, and Moneypenny (Kiera Lester) balancing her straight-laced personality with lighthearted dynamics with Bond. It’s Q, M, and Moneypenny as fans have never seen, and a stellar reimagination at that.

As its name suggests, Q’s fully functional lab is where the senior spy and his team test and store various weapons, equipment, vehicles, and outfits – a place that evokes wonder and awe, especially on the first visit. There’s no shortage of cool inventions on display (and to toy around with, sometimes), from a floating, electricity-shooting cube and a motorcycle with a flamethrower to a red telephone booth, serving as a neat nod to 1995’s GoldenEye. A shooting range, meanwhile, lets players check out different firearms and take a swing at beating the high score.

These devices are the aces up Bond’s sleeve, but not all of them can be brought along for missions. In addition to the base Q-Watch, which scans the surroundings for threats and objects of interest, hacks electronic equipment, and sets off distractions, there are several others to choose from, each tailored for specific purposes. The laser strap, for instance, inflicts temporary blindness and slices through padlocks, while the dart phone leaves targets feeling sick and disoriented. In situations where going loud is necessary, the missile pen, available later in the game, wipes out hostile targets by firing a mini-missile at them.

Unlike the role-playing playbook, 007 First Light doesn’t have an upgrade system of any sort, whether it’s a skill tree or stat boosts, so selecting the right gadgets for one’s play style proves crucial. It won’t take long to settle on a preferred loadout, either – with merely seven gadgets in total, there isn’t much room for mix-and-matching. Instead of a cooldown, usage is determined by the amount of stored electronic and chemical charges, refilled by picking up stray batteries and similar resources.

Embarking on missions is when the Hitman influence bubbles up to the surface. The story takes Bond across the globe, from a packed club in London and a swanky resort in Slovakia to the frigid tundra of Antarctica, with no fixed path or order to complete the objectives, often involving sneaking into restricted areas. To that end, players will have to gather intel, work out the best or most confident approach, and find a way through successfully.

The difference here is the reduced flexibility in carrying out the process. There’s a pattern to the gameplay structure, where chasing leads is a loop of eavesdropping on conversations, trailing a target, and pickpocketing items from distracted subjects that can grow a little repetitive or predictable over time. In a welcome and smart workaround, 007 First Light introduces elements unique to each mission, such as disarming laser traps onboard a ship and taking up various requests or jobs to make some quick money at a black market in Mauritania. Occasionally, a femme fatale tries to derail Bond through flirting and seduction, too.

Also new to IO Interactive’s repertoire is the Bluff system, which puts Bond’s smooth-talking sensibilities to good use. Spending points from the Instinct metre – gained by performing silent takedowns and clean kills, completing mission objectives, or eavesdropping – allows the player to talk their way past low-level enemies without raising suspicion, proving handy for de-escalating tension and escaping in a pinch. It’s an ingenious implementation of the suave and charming personality a spy would cultivate, as opposed to a hitman, even if some of the fake excuses given aren’t always convincing.

That’s not to say that brute force is prohibited. While the espionage ideal features a mix of gadget use, sneaking, and bluffing, there will be situations where head-on confrontation is required, starting with hand-to-hand combat. Alongside basic punching, kicking, and blocking, Bond’s skillset includes well-timed dodges, parries, and counterattacks to reduce reliance on button-mashing. The execution is far from robust, and the manoeuvres are clumsy at times, but it’s a remarkable step up from the Hitman titles and works well for the most part.

Then there’s the firearms component, parked under the Licence to Kill mechanic. Since 007 First Light leans into stealth and infiltration, shooting is only permitted when the enemy shows lethal intent to eliminate Bond, opening the floor to run-and-gun, especially in the later stages of the game. As with close-quarters fighting, don’t expect much depth to the mechanics, although various gun types are available for swapping and throwing (yes, you read that right) mid-battle, from handguns to semi-auto weapons to sniper rifles. Shootouts also feel less consistent in terms of enjoyment, straddling between exhilarating at its most grand and frustrating at its lowest points.

In the latter’s case, large-scale showdowns with plenty of particle effects, usually triggered by multiple on-screen explosions, are the biggest culprit, resulting in frame rate drops and performance issues on less powerful hardware (this review was done on a laptop running an RTX 4060 graphics card). Certain environments make it difficult to spot hostiles in the thick of the action, even if the Focus ability is activated for slow-motion shooting or when Q-Watch highlights all of their silhouettes.

The weakest implementation is the driving segments, however. 007 First Light features vehicle chases as part of its missions, and the controls are often imprecise and sloppy, making navigation more tedious than it needs to be. There are other rough edges of a smaller scope, including inconsistent enemy behaviour – the AI can swing from correctly deducing Bond’s hiding spot to inspecting an unconscious body and attributing it to a strong wind (it was, in fact, not the wind) – and uneven pacing across the chapters, as well as repetitive boss fights and the inability to hide bodies or drag them out of sight, which is a little antiquated for a game requiring stealth acumen.

Some characters, especially Gemma Chan’s Dr Selina Tan, also come across as underutilised, but their interaction with one another and individual nuance offer compensation. Patrick Gibson slips into the role of a young Bond perfectly, playing up his charm and scrappiness that mellow into emotional vulnerability during serious moments, complemented by witty one-liners that occasionally miss the mark. His interactions with Moneypenny, akin to the teasing dynamics between good friends, as well as with Monroe and Cressida, further add to the human touch.

The shining example of growth here is Bond and Greenway’s relationship. In a standout portrayal, Lennie James (The Walking Dead series) breathes life into the latter as a hardboiled-sceptic-turned-reluctant-mentor-figure who gets to bask in a fair bit of the spotlight. It will take a while to warm up to Greenway, and 007 First Light ensures the payoff proves rewarding.

What’s perhaps the most surprising is the overarching narrative. Going by the threadbare storytelling in the Hitman titles, it’s reasonable to think that IO Interactive’s expertise lies elsewhere. Yet, the studio has defied expectations by spinning an intricate web of political intrigue and plot twists that are more relevant to this digital world than ever. It’s the kind of writing that works perfectly for a Bond adventure, sprinkled with several clichés and familiar tropes.

Minor as they are, credit should be given for the user interface (UI) elements. Between the clean look and smooth transition from an animated cutscene to the title card for each mission, the game delivers eye candy on all fronts. Locale variety keeps the sights fresh, and there’s always anticipation that follows the initial exploration. The human models, meanwhile, pair detailed facial expressions with natural movements. Very rarely, though, certain special effects, such as a pile of fire in Q-Lab, have rough edges and unnatural rendering.

Good things come to those who wait, and 007 First Light is all dressed to impress. Not only does it stir the blood by shaking up the established Hitman formula, but it also stands as the best Bond adventure in a long time, comparable to or even above the standards of the much-lauded GoldenEye. IO Interactive’s latest explores territory that no other has quite done before, and it’s all the better for it – alongside a clear respect for the source material, the blend of different play styles, espionage setpieces, and refreshing character reinterpretations all serve as compelling entertainment, topped off with globetrotting fun.

James Bond is back, baby.

Sony Kills Physical Discs For PlayStation Games From Jan 2028

Gamers upset that the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI is only getting a digital-only release have more to get upset about as Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that it will stop releasing new games in physical discs from January 2028.

Citing shifting consumer behaviour as the reason for this change, the company announced in a blog post that new games will be available on PlayStation Store and at retailers in digital formats only. Games already released, or scheduled to launch before January 2028 will remain available on disc, ensuring no disruption for existing collections.

Sony framed the move as a natural response to evolving consumer habits, noting that digital media adoption has far outpaced physical discs. The company emphasised that the transition will allow it to better align with how players prefer to access and enjoy games today.

Additionally, Sony also announced the closure of the PlayStation Store on PS3 and PS Vita, ending nearly two decades of support for the iconic console generation.

The shutdown will roll out in phases:

  • August 2026: PS3 store closures begin in Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua.
  • Late 2026: Additional Latin American and Middle Eastern markets follow.
  • July 2027: Global closure of PS3 and PS Vita stores.

Once closed, players will no longer be able to purchase new content on these devices. However, previously purchased titles will remain available for download “for the foreseeable future,” ensuring existing libraries are preserved.

‘VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS’ Honours Franchise Legacy While Delivering Its Own Finishing Move

This interview has been edited for clarity.

With multiple combo executions, special attacks, finishing moves, slow-motion attacks and everything in between, it’s easy to forget that fighting games have come a long way since their simple 2D, side-by-side foundations. Gaming hardware limitations of the past meant that most titles in the genre did not come with increasingly complex and flashy designs made cutbacks, including simplistic aesthetics, and even indulged in colour palette swaps for multiple characters to save memory.

All until SEGA’s VIRTUA FIGHTER stepped into the ring circa 1993.

Launched for the Sega Model 1 arcade platform, Virtua Fighter made fighting game history by being the first title to feature fully 3D polygon graphics, literally adding a whole new dimension to the genre. It wasn’t all about looks too, as the franchise also introduced an in-depth fighting engine with just three control buttons and the control stick, and was highly influential in the evolution of not just the genre, but video games in general. Now, more than three decades later, the franchise is back with its latest entry, VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS, which looks set to bring some new revolutionary ideas of its own.

Known for its extremely technical combat and its use of real-world fighting techniques, the VIRTUA FIGHTER franchise has never placed a strong emphasis on storytelling, instead letting its gameplay do the talking. Yes, the games had an overarching narrative surrounding protagonist Akira Yuki as he entered the ultimate World Fighting Tournament, but the story never took the spotlight, instead being told through instruction manuals, character bios, and an official VIRTUA FIGHTER manga that was never published outside of Japan.

And here is where everything is about to change, as VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS takes the series into a bold new direction by introducing a fully fledged single-player story mode that heavily expands on the lore, characters, and the seedy underbelly of the universe. Set in the fictional Southeast Asian island city of Vilasapara, the game focuses on four new protagonists whose fates intertwine, as they each struggle to survive a dangerous city fueled by constant power struggles and a string of mysterious martial artist murders.

Crafting a brand-new storyline for a series that has never really placed its narrative at the forefront is already a pretty challenging task, let alone crafting four interweaving stories, so this was understandably a tough hurdle for the team to cross, explains game producer and creative director Riichiro Yamada during an interview with Geek Culture and other members of Southeast Asia media.

But, surprisingly, the challenge that stood out for them wasn’t necessarily the concept of crafting a brand-new narrative, but weaving it with the franchise’s tried-and-true gameplay.

Game producer and creative director Riichiro Yamada

“The hardest part of making VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS was not just telling a story, but having people experience it through its gameplay,” explains Yamada. “A lot of people would just be satisfied with pretty cutscenes and cinematics, but we thought it was better if players could experience the story as they played the game, and this sense of immersion was some of the hardest parts of development.”

In addition, the team also faced the challenges that came with modernising a 30-year-old story, as CROSSROADS is not just set to play out in the same wider VIRTUA FIGHTER universe, but also links to past events and protagonists like Pai Chan and Akira himself.

For Yamada, the inspiration came from the 2019 superhero comic book sequel series Watchmen, which similarly was a revival that came decades after the release of the original iconic 1986 comic book series.

“I thought it was very similar to the situation with VIRTUA FIGHTER, and it told me a lot about how to modernise old settings, and stories to then revive them.”

On the topic of revival, an apt consideration came early on in development – that of the game’s title. As the game features links to established characters in the franchise, many fans were expecting it to be called VIRTUA FIGHTER 6, or just VIRTUA FIGHTER if the team wanted to position it as a reboot, but Yamada vetoed both.

“I specifically wanted it to have a tagline or subtitle. I wanted to show that there’s a lot of change, and that CROSSROADS is something completely new,” Yamada explains. “The title CROSSROADS actually expressed the meaning of the game very well, as it’s about four heroes going through a lot of crossroads, with their fates constantly crossing over each other.”

But if you are a fan of the series, there are hints in the new logo that indicate this is a planned sequel as well, he reveals.

“Also, I don’t really want to tell this to a lot of people, but if you look closely, we actually put a different colour on the ‘V’ and ‘I’ in the title to represent the number six, so it’s there for both our long-time fans to appreciate while still allowing newcomers to approach CROSSROADS as a completely new title in the series.”

Another way the title CROSSROADS links to the title’s in-game features is with its new branching story paths structure. While the team didn’t reveal just how drastically its story will diverge depending on a player’s choices, Yamada teased that players will be able to decide what kind of narrative they want to see while playing the game’s single-player campaign.

“In CROSSROADS, players will first start by playing as one of its main characters, Cielo Salinas, and as they play through his storyline, they will eventually hit a branching point where they will be able to go through the storyline using the other characters,” he explains. “You will be able to choose what kind of narrative unfolds as you go down the storyline and choose different branches to see different results.”

“On top of that, we also have side stories where legendary franchise characters come in, and other sub-stories featuring many different characters, so players will be able to learn more about the world and its characters.”

Of course, VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS innovations aren’t limited to storytelling alone, as the game has also made some interesting changes to how battles work, specifically for its new single-player campaign. While the franchise has traditionally focused on 1v1 fights, CROSSROADS shakes things up considerably by introducing instances where a player will face multiple foes in the same arena, going through different foes during fights in individual bouts.

While this might seem like a roundabout way to approach combat, as a player will still end up facing individual opponents in the group via one-on-one fights, the decision to include such group encounters actually helped the team to better integrate gameplay elements into its campaign.

“The reason why we didn’t just choose only one-on-one battles in this game is that it’s very hard to design levels of the battles when it’s only one-on-one,” Yamada explains. “The player’s character is often placed in situations where they are against multiple foes, so having the traditional one-on-one fights didn’t work, as that’s not a realistic simulation of the battle. This way, it also adds to the variety and design of fights.”

Despite all these evolutions, the team remains determined to maintain the franchise’s legacy, be it by featuring some of its most legendary characters in the campaign, and down to the core fundamentals of the VIRTUA FIGHTER franchise – easy-to-pick-up but hard to master controls, and a dedication to presenting a realistic and grounded fighting game experience.

“People ask a lot about the complexity of VIRTUA FIGHTER, but the franchise actually started as a very simple game that anyone could play,” states Yamada. “It was released at a time when there were many more complex battle systems in other arcade games, yet the game only had three buttons, punch, kick, and guard, so even newcomers could mash buttons and achieve combos. It was only over time that players started learning the complexity of battles by combining combos.”

“So when we started on VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS, we knew we had to go back to the start and look at the original control system. To this end, this time we have optimised the game for gamepad control, and not the arcade stick like other titles in the franchise, which does allow for easier control for the player.”

As for realism, the team wanted to stay true to the roots of the original game, which was heavily inspired by 90s kung fu movies, but have also doubled down on presenting different forms of martial arts in a realistic, grounded nature.

“If you wanted to modernise battles in fighting games, you could do things like adding all sorts of gauges or making fights really effects-heavy, but we didn’t go in that direction. We wanted to keep the realism for more cinematic battle scenes, and then make it more stylish in a way that fits into the atmosphere of VIRTUA FIGHTER,” Yamada concludes.

Based on the game’s initial reveal trailers and Yamada’s comments, it’s clear that the team is both honouring franchise legacy while still forging a new path when developing VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS. On top of maintaining the franchise’s staples like its competitive multiplayer versus mode and signature three-button combat system, the team is also introducing completely new elements with its heavy emphasis on storytelling and groundbreaking group-based single-player battles. It’s a delicate balancing act to pull off, for sure, and a journey fans will surely be eagerly anticipating as the game steadily approaches its release sometime in 2027.

It’s time to set forth on another adventure back to Jewel Changi Airport, as the Pokémon Center Singapore is finally set for its grand reopening on 1 July 2026, bringing with it not just a revitalised space inspired by local heritage, but also plenty of SG-exclusive merch.

Returning after a temporary hiatus on 1 April 2026, the newly revamped Pokémon Center Singapore immediately catches the attention thanks to its new symbol Pokémon, Solgaleo, with a majestic statue welcoming visitors with its sun-like mane, an apt representation of our very own sunny Lion City. Of course, the adorable Pikachu remains the face of the franchise, and that’s why his statue stands side-by-side with his giant new legendary friend, all against the backdrop of a virtual screen featuring Singaporean landscapes housing other Pokémon pals.

Upon entry, visitors are greeted with the full splendour of the store’s new interior, which not just presents a clean and sophisticated look, but is also optimised for the visitor experience, with the store now split into different themed zones inspired by Singapore’s rich cultural heritage.

Up front lie shelves upon shelves of Pokémon merch, all paying tribute to Singapore’s traditional architecture and cityscape. These range from Pokémon Center staples like soft toys and keychains from the OG “Chonky” Pikachu, to giant Poké Balls and adorable plushies ranging across all Pokémon generations.

Further in lies a shelf beautifully designed after Singapore’s local food court culture, with a statue trio of Wattrel, Munchlax, and Flareon sharing a delightful meal of berries. Other Pokémon Center Singapore highlights include an interactive Pokédex display where visitors can search for their favourite characters and view their stats, a Marina Bay-themed event space to house TCG workshops, battles, and mascot appearances, alongside an upgraded checkout counter to serve customers more efficiently.

Of course, no revamp would be complete without a healthy dose of exclusive merchandise, and to celebrate its reopening, the Pokémon Center Singapore is going all out with a host of commemorative merchandise specifically designed for its Lion City outlet.

Arriving in waves starting 1 July, the first batch includes 12 curated items headlined by the Solgaleo and Pikachu two-in-one plush (S$70), the Pikachu with Durian plush (S$34), and the Pokémon Center Singapore exclusive Logo Pin (S$10). Other uniquely Singaporean merchandise includes metal plates, magnets, and folders featuring original artwork of Pokémon in a Singapore-inspired cityscape, a Kopi Cup & Saucer Set, and assorted Pokémon Strap Keychains. Wave 2 will consist of an assortment of bag charms featuring Pikachu with local treats like a durian, a cup of kopi, or a slice of pandan cake, themed pouches and a tote bag, and will arrive on 7 August 2026.

To prepare for Pokémon Center Singapore’s imminent opening, admissions during its opening week (1 July to 5 July 2026) will be managed via a combination of advance reservations and same-day queue entry tickets. RPG ‘Deltarune’ Chapter 6 Set For 2027 As Chapter 5 Shatters Steam’s Concurrent Player Record

It’s been eight years since Toby Fox, the creator of indie gem Undertale, released the first chapter of Deltarune, but the journey is far from over. Following a long-awaited arrival, Chapter 5 shattered the RPG’s previous concurrent player record on Steam, scoring an all-time peak of 291,816 (via SteamDB) — more than double the original milestone of 133,920.

Amid the success, the developer also shared an update on the game’s future, confirming that the story will continue in a sixth entry. According to an FAQ on its Steam page, the team is aiming for a 2027 launch, and information on the development progress will be released periodically.

“The story is still continuing, and more Chapters will be added for free over time,” added Fox.

The increasing popularity of Deltarune is a testament to its enduring appeal, especially for an almost decade-old title. While its predecessor earned a dedicated following, its peak concurrent player count reached 11,071. It’s unclear when the game will conclude, though the chapter select screen has always shown seven chapters, and Fox may look to wrap by 2028, in time for its 10th anniversary.

Set in a parallel universe to Undertale, it centres on Kris, a human teenager predetermined to save the world alongside Susie, a monster, and Ralsei, a prince from the Dark World. As players progress, they will establish relationships with a variety of allies and opponents, and engage in combat with a mix of turn-based and bullet-hell mechanics.

‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ Goes Fully Digital; Physical Copies Won’t Include Disc

Rockstar Games has finally opened pre-orders for perhaps the most anticipated game in recent years, Grand Theft Auto VI, although this announcement came with a curious reveal – that physical copies of the game will not even include a disc, just a download code.

While Grand Theft Auto VI is already up for pre-orders on the PlayStation and Xbox stores, those looking to snag the physical copies of the game in order to reduce the need to download data might be disappointed, as Rockstar has confirmed that they will just be empty boxes with a code.

“The physical version of Grand Theft Auto VI, containing a download code inside the box, will be available starting 12 November 2026 to support pre-loading,” read a press release from parent company Take-Two. On the flipside, this does mean that physical copies will be available earlier, so those with slower internet speeds can use this time to pre-load the game ahead of launch, although judging by how massive game install sizes are these days, they might be in for a long wait.

Rockstars’ move mirrors the trend taken by other gaming studios of late, ditching conventional discs even in their physical copies for download codes. Nintendo also controversially went a similar direction with some of their Nintendo Switch 2 console exclusives, with physical copies of certain titles containing virtual Game-Key cards instead of a physical game card. While this move was made seemingly to curb reselling, it also restricts players from sharing their physical game copies with their friends or family, as the code would be tied specifically to their account.

At least, with the opening of pre-orders, Grand Theft Auto VI seems to have finally locked in a release date after years of delays. In addition to the base edition of the game, its Ultimate Edition packs a bunch of extra goodies such as an exclusive collection of vehicles, weapons and apparel, while those who pre-order the game will receive the Vintage Vice City cosmetic pack.

Grand Theft Auto VI will launch on 19 November 2026 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

PC Game Pass from XBOX Leads In Bringing Top-Rated Blockbuster Titles At The Best Value

You’ve seen the showcases and trailers, where publishers drop the latest upcoming games coming your way, but therein lies the dilemma – which title should you get, and what if it’s not the one you actually like? There can be many critically acclaimed and top-tier games you want to play, but instead of picking and choosing, XBOX continues to deliver the best deal for gamers, with the top blockbuster games across publishers, for one low monthly fee.

This is where its long-running PC Game Pass from XBOX comes into play, because why settle for paying full price for one title, when you can spend a fraction of it, from just S$13.90/month on over 500 high-quality PC games across a wide range of game genres.

From DOOM to FINAL FANTASY, Forza Horizon, or Gears of War, the XBOX subscription service delivers the biggest gaming franchises from yesterday and today, ensuring that gamers are always spoilt for choice with the digital (game) darlings of today, to the gaming titans of yesterday.

And there’s no better time to hop on the PC Game Pass bandwagon, because at an age where prices go up, the live service is one that’s the most bang for your buck. For just S$166.80 a year, which is the rough price of two full-priced AAA titles, gamers have access to a vast catalogue of over 500 games, including those from the EA Play library, as well as an impressive line-up of new XBOX-published games and third-party releases on PC.

Yes, that means you’re playing some of the biggest new games, all without committing to full price. No longer will you be forced to sit through games that don’t bring joy, nor do you feel a need to play, to “justify” the purchase. Now, you have an entire expansive library of games to explore and discover, and you just might find your next favourite title.

If you’re still undecided, here are some of the biggest game releases you can play right now with PC Game Pass, as well as the massive day-one releases you can look forward to this year:

Forza Horizon 6

Race a giant Mech, enough said.

That’s right, the legendary racing franchise has arrived in the Land of the Rising Sun, and it’s bringing Japan’s real-world sights, sounds, and unique car culture along for the ride. From racing through the neon-lit streets of Tokyo City, or cruising along Lake Ashi in full view of the glorious Mount Fuji, this is one joyride you don’t want to miss. Oh, and did we mention that you can race a giant Gundam-esque mech?

EA SPORTS FC 26

The beautiful game finds a new home.

From the pedal to the metal, to the foot on the ball, as yet another latest release from a massive gaming franchise, EA SPORTS FC 26, is now available with PC Game Pass. Featuring over 20,000 players across over 750 clubs and national teams, EA SPORTS FC 26 takes the experience to new heights with overhauled gameplay systems based on community feedback, alongside a new Authentic Gameplay preset that delivers the most true-to-football experience ever.

Halo: Campaign Evolved (28 July 2026)

Hail to the Chief once more.

Master Chief has returned, and this time, he’s taking us back to where it all started with Halo: Campaign Evolved, a full-fledged remake of the 2001 original built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5. Witness the defining journey of one of gaming’s most iconic supersoldiers as he battles against the Covenant and the Flood, and take part in three new, never-before-seen missions in Operation: Meteorite, a clandestine assignment taken on by the Chief and Sgt Johnson one year prior to the events of the main campaign.

Beast of Reincarnation (4 August 2026)

The Pokémon dev’s biggest new IP.

One person, one dog, one massive adventure. Hailing from the Pokémon game franchise developer Game Freak, this newest action RPG thrusts players into a world ravaged by blight as Emma, an outcast with a strange affliction, and Koo, her blighted canine companion. With the pair working as one, face off against gargantuan freaks of nature using a hybrid combat system that combines elements of action and turn-based RPGs, all while uncovering the truth behind the mysterious scourge.

Minecraft Dungeons II (29 September 2026)

The blocky hack-and-slash saga continues.

It’s time to trade in your pickaxes for swords, hammers and bows once more, as the dungeons are begging to be explored once more. Venture forth alone or with up to three friends in co-op and bring the pain on waves of nasty critters like Zombies, Skeletons, or Creepers in this hack-and-slash follow-up that promises tougher challenges, bigger bosses, and more fantastical mayhem.

Gears of War: E-Day (6 October 2026)

Grubs, meet chainsaw Lancer.

Emergence Day was an event that changed Sera forever, and now you can witness the wanton destruction of the Locust hordes first-hand in this gripping origin story. Step into the massively oversized boots of Marcus Fenix once more as he fights alongside his blood brother, Dominic Santiago, in a desperate struggle to fend off the countless Drone army. Roadie Run your way through the streets of Kalona as you rip foes to shreds from cover or up close and personal as you try to survive three intense days of an invasion that would go down in COG history.

With over 500 high-quality games to play with, these are just the more recent highlights of PC Game Pass, and there’s something for every type of gamer. Whether you’re looking for recent smash-hits like DOOM: The Dark Ages and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, classics such as the Quake or StarCraft franchises, or indie hits like Hollow Knight: Silksong and Hades II, PC Game Pass has got you covered.

Let’s not forget that PC Game Pass includes titles from its partner subscription services too, such as EA Play, meaning just one subscription gives you extra access to an additional library of fun, where players can dive directly into flagship gaming franchises like Mass Effect or Battlefield.

Best of all, as an ever-expanding library, PC Game Pass is always adding new games to its line-up, meaning you might finally have a chance to try out that title that has long been sitting on your gaming wishlist, with recent newcomers including Sega’s JRPG epic Persona 5 Royal and the Koei Tecmo Soulslike Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. All this with the flexibility to cancel at any time, no questions asked – you can always re-subscribe later on when those juicy new titles hit!

Quality over quantity? No, this is both quality and quantity. Stop committing full price to just one game, and start grazing. Step into the gateway of your new gaming valhalla, sign up for PC Game Pass from XBOX and start playing, not compromising.

Who knows? You just might find your next favourite gaming gem.

Xbox Celebrates 25 Years With Anniversary Console And Controller

Xbox is turning 25, and Microsoft has unveiled its anniversary console and controller, the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition, to celebrate this milestone.

Just like its counterpart, the Xbox anniversary console and controller bear the hallmarks of everything that made the Xbox, the Xbox. Travelling back in time, both hardware are encased in shells of their cornerstone-inspired translucent “OG green design”.

The console, when powered on, lights up its iconic ‘X’ in green, like the original Xbox start-up. The front of the console features the Xbox 25th Anniversary logo and other elements that “celebrate Xbox fans and classic hardware”. It also comes with 1TB of storage.

The Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition, on the other hand, comes with the original ABXY button colours and black-and-white bumpers that pay homage to the original Duke controller.

It almost feels reminiscent of the good old days — switching the original Xbox on for a round of Halo: Combat Evolved on a Saturday afternoon in 2001, but this time with a more powerful machine. No doubt, hardcore fans will rush to snag a set when it is released in November 2026.

‘Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered’ Revisits Kaiju Brawler Chaos This Nov

In a pleasant surprise for kaiju fans, Atari and Pipeworks Studios have unveiled Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered, the remaster (as the name suggests) of the original kaiju brawler hit.

Coming hot on the heels of a recent leak, the trailer drop features updated visuals and modernised gameplay across Destruction Mode, local co-op, the new Versus or Melee online multiplayer experiences, and more. The unlock system has also been improved, with 12 monsters to choose from and wreak devastation, including the King of Monsters himself, King Ghidorah, and a never-before-seen playable version of Mechagodzilla — each of which will have its own single-player campaign.

The official description reads, “The ultimate kaiju arena brawler is back, completely remastered. From Atari and original developer Pipeworks, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered updates the 2002 fighter with enhanced visuals and quality-of-life improvements. Choose your monster and battle it out with a range of brutal attacks through 8 locations, each with day and night variations. Battle through real-world cities, Monster Island, and the alien Mothership. Face off against your friends in local co-op or new online multiplayer.”

The title hits PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC on 3 November, the month that developers are skirting due to the highly anticipated arrival of Grand Theft Auto 6. Originally launched in 2002, the cult-classic brawler sees players stepping into the shoes of a monster that broke free from the Vortaak’s control, after the alien race invaded Earth and assumed control of the planet’s creatures, sending them to attack cities across the globe. A sequel, Godzilla: Save the Earth, was released in 2004.

Xbox Games Showcase 2026: Top 12 (of 25) Reveals That Got Us Excited

Hot off PlayStation’s god-tier State of Play showcase, Xbox is now throwing its hat into the ring, and it’s determined to come out on top. To celebrate 25 years of Microsoft’s gaming console, the Xbox Games Showcase 2026 marks a return to form with 25 exciting game reveals, such as the long-awaited Gears of War: E-Day and surprise sequels like Senua and Spyro: A Realm Beyond.

Here’s a rundown of everything that was revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase 2026:

TOP 12 ANNOUNCEMENTS (in alphabetical order)

Clockwork Revolution

InXile Entertainment has offered a more in-depth look at its upcoming time-bending steampunk RPG, Clockwork Revolution, which is centred on the Rotten Row Hooligans gang and its leader, Morgan. Armed with the Chronometer, players will harness the power of time to reshape history and blast through foes with steampunk weapons and gadgets. The game will be an Xbox console exclusive and will arrive sometime in 2027.

Crazy Taxi

Now here’s a blast from the past, as Crazy Taxi: World Tour, the next instalment of Sega’s classic arcade driving game franchise, is set to bring back the high-octane action sometime in 2027. Featuring long-time franchise protagonist Axel, the game will see players embarking on a story campaign spanning five unique cities, with tons of car customisation options, an online racing mode, and a revamped classic arcade mode.

Fable

Playground Games’ Fable might have been delayed to next year, but at least we now have a new look at one of its major villains, Isabel, the Hero of Wraithmarsh. Portrayed by Haley Atwell, this former Albion hero has now fallen to the dark side and is obsessed with righting Albion’s wrongs, no matter how many people she has to hurt along the way. Additionally, the trailer also offers a first look at the return of another iconic villain, Jack of Blades, so it will be interesting to see the new direction this next instalment takes when the game launches on 23 February 2027.

Gears of War: E-Day

As perhaps the biggest title of the showcase – so big, in fact, that it received a dedicated game direct showcase – Gears of War: E-Day takes things back to the beginning. Players will embody the iconic soldiers Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as they try to survive the events of the titular Emergence Day, the first appearance of the deadly Locust Horde. E-Day looks to feel and play just like fans of the franchise know and love, now with added fluidity and verticality when it comes to movement. Players can witness the fall of Sera first-hand when the game launches on 6 October 2026 as an Xbox console exclusive.

Halo: Campaign Evolved

Master Chief is back, and this time, he is about to embark on a never-before-seen adventure, as Halo: Campaign Evolved, the upcoming remake of the original 2001 game, has received a new trailer spotlighting its three new campaign missions, Operation: METEORITE. Centred on the Chief and Sgt Johnson, players will embark on a clandestine UNSC operation behind enemy lines set one year before the events of the game, offering new gameplay mechanics like space battles and a new enemy archetype, the Brute Berserker. The game will launch on 28 July 2026.

Metro 2039

Metro 2039 has received its first gameplay reveal, offering a look at its gritty first-person action set within a post-apocalyptic Moscow. Players will embody a new protagonist, The Stranger, as he seeks to bring down the reign of Fuhrer Hunter, whom fans will recognise as one of the Spartan Rangers and an ally of the previous protagonist Artyom, first seen in the original 2010 game, Metro 2033. Expect everything that makes the franchise special, such as its top-notch mix of action, stealth and survival horror, when the game launches in February 2027.

Persona 6 + Persona 4 Revival

Persona fans rejoice, as we have not one, but two new announcements, headlined by the world premiere of Persona 6, the next chapter in the franchise, which is set to offer everything fans love about the series in a new standalone story.

To keep players occupied til the eventual launch of Persona 6, a remake of the fourth game, Persona 4 Revival, has also received its official release date, and will reimagine the RPG with enhanced visuals and improved gameplay when it launches on 18 February 2027.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy

The Plague Tale franchise is getting a new chapter, and this time, it looks to be heading in a bold new direction. Following the previous two stealth-based titles, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy will explore the origins of the franchise with a new protagonist, Sophia, who embarks on a journey to a mysterious island to uncover a terrifying secret hidden in the shadows. Instead of sneaking by enemies, Sophia is a much more capable fighter, and the game will offer a mix of intense close-quarters combat, Uncharted-esque exploration, and the franchise’s signature emotional storytelling when it launches on 27 August 2026.

Senua

The tragic tale of Senua continues, as the Hellblade franchise continues with the eponymously titled next chapter, which sees the titular Celtic warrior trapped between life and death in a fractured vision of purgatory. Unlike the previous two games, which saw players mostly encountering foes in small groups, here they must use everything at their disposal against larger hordes of enemies, including her signature blade, a hatchet, her special focus abilities, or even environmental hazards. Apart from combat, the game is also set to see the return of its perception-based environmental puzzles and what looks to be encounters against gigantic bosses. Senua is set to launch sometime in 2027.

Spyro: A Realm Beyond

The legendary gaming dragon is making a comeback, as Spyro: A Realm Beyond marks the first original game in the franchise in nearly two decades. The iconic purple dragon’s newest adventure will see him exploring a new world in a whole new light, thanks to its true flight mechanics, which allow players to freely soar through the air for the first time in the franchise. Spyro: A Realm Beyond takes flight in Spring 2027.

State of Decay 3

Now this one is a long time coming, as Undead Labs has finally revealed the first gameplay trailer for State of Decay 3, the next chapter in its undead survival franchise. Playing solo or in a shared world with up to four players, this new adventure will see players building up their community of survivors while fighting back against a much deadlier and more dynamic zombie threat, all set within the franchise’s signature open-world sandbox. The game will launch sometime in 2027.

Valor Mortis

Valor Mortis is a first-person action Soulslike that sees players stepping into the shoes of Napoleon Bonaparte as he rises from the dead and faces a horde of terrifying monsters. The game will feature visceral first-person swordfights alongside supernatural powers, and what looks to be punishingly difficult boss encounters, when it launches on 24 September 2026.

Apart from our top picks, the Xbox Games Showcase 2026 was home to a host of other game announcements. From indie darlings to surprise DLC reveals and even a limited edition Xbox Series X console, here’s everything else that was revealed during the showcase:

Bad Magpie

From new indie studio Milktooth comes Bad Magpie, a charming adventure game that features a one-winged magpie that’s deadset on wreaking havoc wherever it goes. Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse

Set 23 years after 1989’s Castlevania: Dracula’s Curse, Konami’s sequel, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, will see players take on the role of Rose Belmont, the daughter of Trevor, in a new 2D Metroidvania that blends classic franchise elements with modern enhancements. The game will launch on 15 October 2026.

Vivarium

This one is full of nostalgia, as Vivarium will offer a life-sim adventure inspired by classic cel-drawn anime shows and movies. ‘The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’ Remake Revisits N64 Classic On Nintendo Switch 2 In 2026

Nintendo is remaking one of its most successful games of all time, 1998’s The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, for the Nintendo Switch 2, and best of all, it’s coming out this year.

Revealed via the Nintendo Direct showcase for June 2026, a brief cinematic trailer opened with a tapestry outlining the game’s narrative, followed by a shot of a sleeping Link, now reimagined in a modern art style. If this shot turns out to be actual in-engine footage, it also marks a departure from the more cell-shaded graphics style of past 3D Zelda games like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, instead leaning into something closer to realism.

“The Nintendo 64 classic returns for a new generation in 2026,” read Nintendo’s description for the remake. “Reborn exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2!”

Ocarina of Time was originally released in 1998 for the N64 console, and marked the first 3D Zelda game. The title is often considered one of the best Nintendo games of all time, with the game going on to receive a remastered version in 2011 for the Nintendo 3DS, but now, the modern gaming generation can finally experience this defining chapter in Link’s journey, which saw the silent hero travelling through time to awaken six Sages and defeat Ganondorf, the evil king of the Gerudo.

While The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake has not received a firm release date, the title will be a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive and is set to launch sometime in 2026.

‘Kingdom Hearts 4’ Finally Drops Gameplay First Look, To Launch Across All Platforms

As perhaps one of the biggest surprise reveals of the Nintendo Direct showcase for June 2026, Square Enix’s long-awaited RPG sequel, Kingdom Hearts 4, has finally received its first proper gameplay trailer, reuniting Sora with his Keyblade once more.

During the tail end of the presentation, the much-anticipated title dropped a minute-long trailer showcasing the game in action, opening with a mysterious hooded figure atop a skyscraper in a city besieged by monsters. It doesn’t take long before Sora, the iconic hero of the franchise, shows up, wielding his Keyblade to face off against a gigantic demon.

While brief, the gameplay trailer does show off some of the new moves that Sora will be able to master, including the ability to summon golden chains from his Keyblade to encircle enemies, to which he can then ride them like rails to close the gap or spawn magical projectiles. The trailer also shows off the game’s updated graphics, with the title being built on Unreal Engine 5, alongside the return of familiar faces like Donald, Goofy, and Riku.

“A new instalment in the action role-playing series developed and published by Square Enix, Kingdom Hearts 4 gives fans a look at some of the characters that protagonist Sora will meet in the mysterious city of Quadratum,” read the official description for the game. “Sora will once again journey to realms, where new figures cross his path and new powers awaken his next chapter.”

Despite receiving our first look at the title, Nintendo did not announce any release window for Kingdom Hearts 4, so fans might still be in for a long wait ahead. The game, however, is set to launch simultaneously across all platforms, spanning the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

To bide fans’ time before Kingdom Hearts 4 eventually releases, Nintendo also announced that all the previous three games in the franchise will soon be packaged into the Kingdom Hearts Collection, which includes Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts 3 + Re Mind. The collection is set to launch on 8 October 2026.

Nintendo Direct June 2026: ‘Kingdom Hearts 4’, ‘Ocarina of Time’ Remake, ‘Xenoblade Genesis’ & More

The season of gaming showcases continues, as now it’s Nintendo’s turn to show us what they’ve got in store, and the Nintendo Direct June 2026 had no shortage of announcements, including the long-awaited first look at Kingdom Hearts 4, alongside surprise reveals like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, Xenoblade Genesis, and Final Fantasy Resonance, alongside a number of currently released titles finally making their way to the hybrid console.

Here’s everything revealed during the Nintendo Direct Showcase June 2026:

Kingdom Hearts 4

As possibly the biggest surprise of the entire showcase, Square Enix left its mark by finally revealing the first looks at gameplay for its long-awaited RPG sequel, Kingdom Hearts 4. Although brief, the snippet of gameplay showcases Sora wielding his Keyblade once more to battle against demons, with the trailer also showcasing the game’s new look running on Unreal Engine 5. Still, the title has yet to receive an official release window, so fans might be in for a long wait.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake

This one was another surprise, but one that fans saw was coming. Heavily rumoured prior to its announcement, Nintendo has finally unveiled that it will be remaking one of the most successful games of all time, 1998’s The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. While the reveal trailer didn’t show off much, it did offer a look at what seems to be the game’s updated art style, which looks to lean towards realism more than the cell-shaded nature of the past two modern Zelda titles. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive and will launch sometime in 2026.

Xenoblade Genesis

Five years after 2022’s Xenoblade Chronicles 3, fans are finally getting another game in the form of Xenoblade Genesis, which will mark a “new beginning for the series” and is set to launch exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.

Final Fantasy Resonance

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave will bring the next chapter in the tactical turn-based RPG franchise on 17 September 2026. Players will gather powerful fighters to participate in the Heroic Games, where the winner is granted one wish, taking part in tactical battles where unit positioning and an understanding of terrain are key.

Ninjala 2: The Uncharted Planet

Ninjala 2: The Uncharted Planet, the first half of a two-part saga, will drop players into a massive open world filled with dangers and places to discover. Wielding Ninja Gum-based abilities, players can traverse the lands with their Gum Hooks, use weapons like hammers and katanas to combat foes, or even summon powerful buddies like a giant mech in battle. ‘Resident Evil Veronica’ Remake Will Be A Third-Person Game

Capcom has confirmed that its upcoming remake, Resident Evil Veronica, will be played in the third-person perspective, similar to what the studio did for the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes.

Unveiled during Summer Game Fest, the trailer for the remake played out in the first-person perspective, leading many fans to assume that the remake would adopt the approach by 2017’s Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, or possibly combine the perspectives for both Claire and Chris’ sections, something similar to what Resident Evil Requiem did.

To clear the air, the remake’s producer, Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, came forward during a Q&A session following the reveal to clarify that the title would be a third-person game.

“The team behind this remake is the same team that handled the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remakes,” Hirabayashi explained. “So if you looked at the past remakes that this team has created, you can probably sense a certain mindset that we have when we make a game, and that mindset includes preserving those iconic and key aspects of the title. So again, if you look at our work, you can probably get kind of a good sense of what kind of approach we’re taking here, and maybe you can imagine what that might look like for this remake.”

The original 2000 title, Resident Evil – Code: Veronica, saw series veteran Claire Redfield on a search for her missing brother Chris, another familiar face in the franchise. One half of the game is played as Claire, while the other half is spent with her brother, so it’s likely that Resident Evil Veronica will follow suit. For now, it remains to be seen how differently each sibling’s section will play out, but since Claire is more experienced with the zombie threat following the events of Resident Evil 2, it’s likely her skillset will also evolve as well.

Resident Evil – Code: Veronica (2000)

“So during Resident Evil 2, she was a university student,” Hirabayashi added. “Veronica takes place about three months after the events of Resident Evil 2. So let’s just think about how that progression or how much change happened in about three months… She has had training from her brother, and of course, she survived the incident in Raccoon City, so she’s not going to be the exact same character. But the portrayal of her and her style is going to be in alignment with that timeline and that history that we’re looking at for Veronica.”

As to just how much Claire has evolved, or if her character will differ from that of the original game, only time will tell, as the game steadily approaches its release sometime in 2027.

Valve’s Steam Machine Hybrid Game Console Costs From US$1,049

Valve has officially announced the prices for its hybrid pc/console game system, the Steam Machine, and it’s quite a tough pill to swallow, costing over US$1,000 for its base model.

As announced via a community post on Steam, the Steam Machine will launch in four configurations, with the prices in USD listed below:

  • Steam Machine 512GB: US$1,049
  • Steam Machine 512GB + Steam Controller bundle: US$1,128
  • Steam Machine 2TB: US$1,349
  • Steam Machine 2TB + Steam Controller bundle: US$1,428

As a bonus, the two 2TB configurations for the Steam Machine will also come with two additional faceplates (red fabric and solid walnut) alongside its default black variation. Pre-orders for the hybrid console are now open until 25 June 2026, although pre-orders are currently not available in some regions, such as Singapore.

Even for those in regions where pre-orders are available, getting your hands on the Steam Machine before launch isn’t that simple, as Valve has implemented a reservation system similar to what Nintendo did for the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2. Those looking to pre-order the console must first meet these requirements:

  • Have a Steam account in good standing (no bans, etc).
  • Must have made a purchase on Steam prior to 27 April 2026.
  • Limited to one signup per household, with Valve using payment methods, shipping address, and other information to eliminate multiple entries.

Those who meet these requirements can then sign up for the Steam Machine bundles they are interested in before 25 June at 10am PDT, and Valve will then perform a one-time randomisation to determine the reservation order. Based on the order, those who signed up will then receive an email on 25 June to indicate one of two things – either that they have been added to the reservation queue, to which they will then receive a further email when units become available for shipment with the option to purchase, or an email stating that they have been added to the waitlist, with further information to come as more units become available.

While these all sound pretty complicated to buy a console, it does make sense to curb the very common problem nowadays of resellers and scalpers. The bigger issue now remains its price, which is quite steep considering the hardware on offer. The Steam Machine houses “semi-custom” components for its CPU and GPU, with its specs listed below:

  • CPU: AMD Zen 4 CPU clocked at “up to” 4.8GHz, 6 cores, 12 threads
  • GPU: AMD RDNA 3 Navi 33 processor with 28 compute units up to 2.45GHz, 8GB GDDR6 VRAM
  • Memory: 16GB DDR5 RAM

Taking these specs in mind, and comparing them with other consoles, such as the base PS5, the Steam Machine does have an edge on paper, with a more powerful CPU. In practice, however, the PS5 has an advantage due to its many proprietary performance-enhancing features, such as PSSR, to help ensure smooth performance in games. Performance tests done by sites like Digital Foundry, for example, found that the base PS5 saw better performance in certain games compared to the Steam Machine running on similar settings, such as Black Myth Wukong and Alan Wake 2.

The major advantage the Steam Machine has is in terms of flexibility, as it can run a wider range of games and at more customisable settings, similar to how a PC operates. The main issue here lies in its asking price, with its cheapest variant costing almost US$500 more than the base PS5 Digital Edition, so it might be a tough ask for a console that potentially runs games worse.

Valve will begin sending order emails to customers at the beginning of the reservation queue on 29 June 2026, with the first batch of Steam Machines being shipped to them starting from that date.

Nintendo Direct June 2026 Is Summer Game Fest’s Most-Watched Showcase

The Summer Game Fest showcase season for June has finally ended, concluding three weeks of top-notch gaming reveals comprising its main showcase, PlayStation’s State of Play, the Xbox Games Showcase, and the Nintendo Direct, with Nintendo’s showcase emerging victorious as the most-viewed of the four.

@summergamefest 2026 is officially over. What a week!
15+ showcases. Dozens of world premieres. Millions of viewers tuned in from every corner of the world, and we tracked everything!
A huge shoutout to @geoffkeighley and the entire SGF team for putting on this annual… pic.twitter.com/jwVm0Z6pqJ

— LevelUp (@wearelua) June 12, 2026

This comes courtesy of analytics company LevelUp, which compiled viewership figures across all the major gaming broadcasts between 1 and 11 June. As reported via a post on its social media page, the Nintendo Direct June 2026 saw a peak of around 3.8 million concurrent viewers, the highest of all the showcases.

These figures even beat out the Summer Game Fest main showcase, which saw a peak of 3.7 million viewers. State of Play came in at third place with 2.9 million viewers, followed by the Xbox Games Showcase at 2.2 million, and finally, the dedicated Gears of War: E-Day direct at 808.000 viewers.

Viewership for the main showcases wasn’t the only stat being compared, though, as LevelUp also compiled the total views for specific trailers, which comprised aggregated views across all detected occurrences of said trailer, including shorter trailer cuts, according to LevelUp. To this end, Nintendo once again emerged victorious, with its reveal trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake reportedly raking in 115 million views despite showing off nothing more than a cutscene of a map and a sleeping Link.

This brief trailer was apparently enough to stir hype from Nintendo’s avid fanbase, beating out far more substantial trailers, such as that of God of War Laufey (90.5 million views) and Resident Evil Veronica (70.9 million views), which sat at second and third place, respectively.

Figures aside, it’s safe to say that the Summer Game Fest was a huge win overall for all gamers, with a wide variety of titles to look forward to this year and beyond, especially an extremely crowded September 2026 period, which will see the release of multiple highly anticipated titles such as Marvel’s Wolverine (15 Sept), Control Resonant (24 Sept), Onimusha: Way of the Sword (25 Sept), and Silent Hill Townfall (24 Sept). It’s going to be a busy one for gamers worldwide, especially for their wallets.

Nintendo Switch Gets Long-Overdue eShop Update That Makes Scrolling Way Smoother

It’s never too late for an upgrade. Nine years after its release, the original Nintendo Switch has finally gotten a much-welcome update for its eShop, notoriously known for its glitchy, sluggish performance, especially as its list of games grew over time. With the rollout of firmware version 22.5.0, that will be a thing of the past.

As detailed in the latest patch notes, the entire console lineup now features a redesigned layout, improved colour coordination, support for Dark Mode, and “general system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience”. What this means is a local eShop app, similar to the one on the Switch 2, so that it no longer runs on a self-contained web browser, which would load extremely slowly and make scrolling an utter chore.

The difference is as stark, per a clip recording posted by Daniel Vuckovic on Bluesky:

Look at it gooooooo

— Daniel Vuckovic (@vook64.bsky.social) 2026-06-16T01:45:12.357Z

The switch (hah) to native software also introduces the ability to set up PIN codes to access the digital store and use saved payment methods, adding another layer of security against unauthorised purchases by other users and removing the need to key in the password manually with each visit.

On Switch 2, the 22.5.0 system update expands its Text to Speech and Speech to Text During GameChat accessibility setting to Dutch and Russian.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Final Update Now Available

Conditions for Black Tides:

  • Complete Naoe & Yasuke’s main story.
  • Complete “A Critical Encounter” post-launch quest.
  • Complete “A Puzzlement” post-launch quest.

■ New Crossover Projects: Riptides and Undertow

We’re releasing two new crossover Projects available in the Animus HUB called Riptides and Undertow, in which you can unlock new themed outfits, weapons, trinkets and more!

To activate the new Projects, complete Anomalies and progress through the rewards like previously released ones. These include rewards for both Shadows and Black Flag Resynced and can be progressed by completing Anomalies from both games.

Note: Unfortunately, these will not be available on Nintendo Switch 2 as it contains crossover content with Black Flag Resynced, which will not be releasing for Nintendo.

■ New End-Game Feature: Domains

A brand-new Animus activity that will put your RPG build crafting skills to the test as you tackle 5 new gameplay simulations across 10 challenge levels.

  • Unlock conditions: Reach level 30

MOD, an Assassin hacker, has created a new type of simulation called “Domains.” These trials are designed to help the Dark Animus users sharpen their combat and survival skills. Those who can rise to the challenge can earn dozens of new and remixed outfits, weapons, trinkets and engravings.

The higher the difficulty, the more gameplay modifiers will be applied. The goal is to push you out of your comfort zone and make you rethink your loadouts. A strategy that works in one Domain may not in the next. “Time to get those Mythic and Artifact upgrades you’ve been putting off!”

MOD has an exclusive shop and in-game currency you can use to purchase new end-game gear sets, new powerful engravings, and a progression tree to support the Domain’s increasing challenges. As you push through higher difficulties, MOD will reward you with weapons and armors that longtime Animus users may recognize.

And you will need it all if you want to beat the hardest challenge levels (and get the secret rewards along the way!)

Note: None of these items will ever be in the store or the exchange. These are Domain-exclusive, for bragging rights only!

■ New Animus Rift: Horizon

Another Rift has opened to reveal trouble stirring in its depths.

The Eagle has more information to share about the Guide.

Note: You must complete the two previous Animus Rifts to access the New one: Horizon.

■ Additional Highlights

Quality of Life HUB Improvements

Change to the access to Animus HUB features in the main menu.

We’ve changed the access to the HUB features in the main menu to harmonize with how they are accessed from gameplay. The System menu will now only be accessible through the Shadows’ Memory page.

Ubisoft Bids ‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Farewell With Final Content Update

Just a little over a year after it launched in March 2025, Ubisoft is finally saying goodbye to Assassin’s Creed Shadows, as the game has received its final content update, which not only wraps up the storyline of its two protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke, but also directly ties into the studio’s upcoming title, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.

Titled Update 1.1.11, the final content drop is headlined by the ‘Black Tides’ story mission, which closes out the game’s narrative while also linking to Black Flag’s protagonist, Master Assassin Edward Kenway, and Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey’s Kassandra. To access this final mission, players will need to have completed the main game’s campaign, along with the two post-launch quests, ‘A Critical Encounter’ and ‘A Puzzlement’.

Alongside ‘Black Tides’, the update also introduces a new type of activity known as Domains to Assassin’s Creed Shadows. These consist of five Animus simulations and ten challenge levels. Players can attempt these new levels once they reach level 30, with each Domain activity providing some of the toughest stealth and combat challenges the game has to offer.

Finally, Assassin’s Creed Shadows will also see content added to its existing systems, including new crossover ‘Projects’ where players can complete optional Animus anomaly challenges while they play to unlock Black Flag Resynced-themed content, alongside the third and final Modern Day Rift – a series of optional in-game activities players can encounter while free-roaming – named ‘Horizon’, which connects the game to Black Flag Resynced.

With this, Ubisoft looks to be giving Assassin’s Creed Shadows a proper send-off, especially considering past attempts to introduce new content to the game proved divisive among fans, such as the infamous Attack on Titan collaboration. Assassin’s Creed Shadows had its ups and downs, but now that the journey to Sengoku Japan has concluded, this leaves room for fans to get hyped for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, which sets sail on 9 July 2026.

‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ Unveils Cover Art & Vice City Skyline, Pre-Orders Start In June

Ahead of what’s perhaps the biggest gaming launch of the year (if it even happens), Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto VI, which is set to launch on 19 November 2026, the studio has released the official cover art for the game, a new look at the impressive skyline of its setting of Vice City, alongside revealing that pre-orders will begin this month.

GTA 6’s cover art was revealed via a brief 30-second teaser, which follows the franchise tradition with multiple panels of stylised shots featuring different scenes, such as its main protagonists Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval, various vehicles like a supercar and a motorbike, one of its supporting characters, Boobie Ike, as well as a few other unknown individuals which will no doubt play some role in the game’s storyline.

Meanwhile, on Rockstar’s official game page, the studio also added a new image of Vice City’s skyline, a dynamic shot of the city at night that animates as visitors scroll through the website. The image shows a decent look at many of the game’s world elements, such as its many high-rise buildings, which players can hopefully explore, or the various vehicles across land, sea, and air that they could potentially pilot.

These reveals also coincide with the announcement that pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI will open on 25 June 2026, which is a pretty bold move by Rockstar, considering the game has yet to reveal any form of official gameplay footage to date. Leave it to Rockstar to build hype and convince people to drop their hard-earned cash with cinematic videos alone. This will also be the date that the price of the game will finally be revealed, and all eyes are on the studio to see if the game will stick to the current conventions of video game pricing, or whether the bar will be raised even higher.

Grand Theft Auto VI is set to launch on 19 November 2026 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

PlayStation Reportedly Dropped PC Releases Due To Inconsistency & Low Revenue

PlayStation had already recently announced that it will be ditching the PC ports of its narrative-driven single-player games moving forward, but now, insider sources have revealed that this decision was made due to the “inconsistent” nature of past releases, and the fact that they didn’t make enough money.

This information came from a post from prolific video game insider Jason Schreier on gaming forum ResetEra, where he states that Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Herman Hulst reportedly told staff during a recent town hall that the decision was made because “they were inconsistent with their PC releases, they didn’t make enough money, and they want to keep their IP aligned to their own platform,” citing that this information was heard by two people who were present at the town hall.

These comments do give a better understanding as to why PlayStation ultimately decided to drop their PC port endeavours, as sad as it may be for all PC gamers out there. The idea of having some of the studio’s best games on multiple platforms might seem beneficial to both fans and the studio itself, but the numbers don’t lie, and the truth of the matter is that some of the biggest PS5 titles released on PC ended up underperforming, such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which only managed to garner an all-time concurrent player peak count of just 28,189 on Steam at the time of writing.

This issue probably boils down to the fact that these games would only be released on PC months or years after their initial release on the PS5, meaning that by that time, the hype surrounding the title had already died down, making them only appealing to gamers who solely own a PC and not an accompanying PS5, which apparently isn’t a common trend. Furthermore, the “inconsistent” nature of releases referred to by Hulst is likely a reference to the fact that many of its PC ports end up launching in a disastrous state, such as the aforementioned Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 or Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 1, further fueling the title’s underperformance.

Still, it’s a pretty unfortunate turn of events for PC gamers, especially since PlayStation has one of the better single-player narrative-driven game line-ups out there, with many highly-anticipated games set to arrive soon, such as Marvel’s Wolverine, God of War Laufey, and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Those looking to play these titles would just have to jump on the PS5 bandwagon.

Street Fighter 6 asmine DLC Character Coming on August 3

PS5™, PS4™, XSX™, XONE™ & Switch 2 – US, EU, JP & Asia

Get ready as Yasmine joins the fray as a DLC character for Street Fighter 6 on August 3.

Check out the details below via Capcom.

Hailing from the Philippines, Yasmine learned how to fight alongside her Kuya (older brother) under the guidance of her Lolo (grandfather). Following the sudden disappearance of her brother, Yasmine put down her Karambit knife until FooTube videos of a certain French supermodel inspired her to cut a path to her lost sibling. On her journey of discovery, Yasmine will use various high-speed Eskrima techniques such as:

  • Daloy ng Tubig – A quick forward-moving knife attack that can set-up or extend combos
  • Alon – A follow-up attack from Daloy ng Tubig where Yasmine lashes out with a multi-slice hit that ends differently depending upon the strength used for the attack, with successful strikes placing Yasmine in a powered-up state (Bayani Mode)
  • Talim ng Hangin – Yasmine spins forward in a low sweep that can either close distance with opponents or bait out their attacks based upon the strength used, with successful hits placing her in Bayani Mode
  • Mukha ng Langit – Yasmine leaps into a front flip that can mix up opponents with either a forward swipe or an upside-down spinning back hit
  • Lipad ng Agila – A multi-hit attack where Yasmine leaps into the air in a flurry of kicks
  • Pangil sa Likuran – A swirling projectile that lashes out at varying speeds so Yasmine can chase down and open up her opponent
  • Hiwa ng Kalangitan – Yasmine’s Level 1 Super Art sees her kick her opponent into the air, then slam them back down before transitioning into Bayani Mode
  • Nakatagong Lakas – During Yasmine’s Level 2 Super Art she focuses her energy for a limited time boost that allows her to use special moves while staying in Bayani Mode. She can also use Linya ng Liwanag during this Super Art where she dashes past an opponent and attacks them from behind.
  • Pamumukadkad ng Sampaguita – Yasmine’s Level 3 Super Art where she spins an opponent and gathers energy before pulverizing them in an all-out attack

Yasmine will be unlocked and ready to cut class (and her opponents) on August 3 for players who own or purchase the Year 4 Character Pass or Year 4 Ultimate Pass. Yasmine’s Outfit 1 showcases her in Eskrima combat attire, while Outfit 2 depicts Yasmine in her school uniform between bouts. Outfit 2 can be unlocked by maxing out her Acquisition Gauge in Avatar Arcade Mode or with Fighter Coins.

Yasmine is the first character to be released from the upcoming Year 4 roster including Arjun, Tifa from the Final Fantasy VII Remake series, and Bosch. Yasmine’s release will also coincide with Battle Balance adjustments for the entire Street Fighter 6 roster, so check out the Battle Change List before maintenance starts.

The attraction announced that the Super Family Restaurant is scheduled to open sometime this fall, with its name taking after the official name of the Super Famicom home console, released as SNES outside of Japan. The new space joins the existing Hatena Burger cafe, where visitors can enjoy original hamburgers and create their own, and per the official account on X/Twitter, will offer “a variety of menus, including food and desserts”.

A sneak peek at the upcoming eatery was also unveiled, though no other details were shared:

In it, a statue of The Legend of Zelda protagonist Link holding a bow stands as the centrepiece, accompanied by a Master Sword display on the right and what appears to be a Samus suit from Metroid on the other shelf.

Located in Uji City, the Nintendo Museum takes visitors on a learning and experiential journey that celebrates the history of entertainment through the many products it has created over the years. It operates on a lottery-based system, where tickets are sold through a random drawing, and visitors can apply for a specific date in advance. There’s a catch, however —a single ticket won’t grant access to all eight exhibitions, as the interactive exhibitions require digital coins to play, only 10 of which are given upon entry. From now to 7 September, two special admission pass designs are available as part of the Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary event.

‘Black Myth: Wukong’ Hits 30M Sales, Beating ‘Elden Ring’ Milestone By Almost 2 Years

Game Science’s hit Soulslike action RPG Black Myth: Wukong already made waves upon its release in 2024, but now, less than two years later, it has reportedly smashed another colossal milestone by selling over 30 million copies, a feat that it achieved even faster than FromSoftware’s own title, Elden Ring.

This comes from a report by Chinese Youth, which adds that the game performed well even outside of China, with over half of its sales gained from the global market. Reaching the 30 million units mark is certainly an impressive feat for any video game, with only a handful of titles achieving this over the years. The most poignant example would be Elden Ring, which hit the goal in 2025, with Black Myth: Wukong achieving the milestone nearly two years faster than the FromSoft title.

These figures also place Black Myth: Wukong as one of the best-selling video games ever, alongside other industry greats like Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V, CD Projekt’s Cyberpunk 2077, and Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. However, it has to be noted that this information came from the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China (CYL), a political organisation of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), which does raise questions of its validity. Even so, it’s still safe to say that the game has performed remarkably, especially since it was originally released only on the PC and PS5, with its Xbox version launching one year later.

Looking ahead, Game Science is currently working on a follow-up, Black Myth: Zhong Kui, a title announced during Gamescom 2025, although the title seems to still be in its early stages, with no release window announced. The game is set to focus on the titular ghost-catching god and will follow in Wukong’s footsteps as a single-player action RPG.

Tokyo Is Building a Brand-New Anime Festival — TOKYO ANIME NEXT Lands in Ikebukuro This October | GameTrader.SG

Tokyo just announced a brand-new anime festival, and it could become one of the most important events on the calendar for anime fans everywhere. The Japan Animation Association, co-hosted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, has unveiled TOKYO ANIME NEXT — a four-day showcase running 30 October to 2 November 2026 across Ikebukuro’s Toshima Ward. The announcement landed today directly from Tokyo’s official government press release, with no English coverage yet.

What Is TOKYO ANIME NEXT?

TOKYO ANIME NEXT is the Japan Animation Association’s first major Tokyo-based event at this scale. The headline venue is Tokyo Tatemono Brillia HALL in Ikebukuro, with additional programming spread across multiple locations in the Toshima Ward district — the same neighbourhood that houses Sunshine City, Animate Ikebukuro, and some of the densest concentration of anime goods stores in the world.

The event’s stated mission is to showcase both the present and future of Japanese animation: connecting anime with international audiences and providing a platform for emerging animation talent.

What to Expect Across Four Days

The programme spans a genuinely broad range of formats. According to the official announcement, TOKYO ANIME NEXT will feature:

  • Screenings — acclaimed works and latest notable titles
  • Exhibitions — deep dives into animation production and craft
  • Workshops — children’s and educational programmes
  • Symposiums and talk events — panels on the state of the industry
  • Stage events — live performances and presentations

The finale on 2 November at Brillia HALL is the headline moment: a special orchestral performance synchronised with footage from anime titles popular overseas, framing both the art form’s history and its global future. Think less Comiket floor-scramble, more curated cultural showcase — with a live orchestra as the close.

The Bigger Picture: A Major 2027 Event Is Coming

Here is the part that has us paying close attention. The October 2026 event is explicitly described as a launch project — a test run, in effect, for a full-scale international anime festival planned to open in earnest in 2027. Organisers will use the finale on 2 November to formally announce those 2027 plans. In other words, what we are seeing now is the prologue to something bigger.

With Sony Music Solutions handling operations and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government as co-host, the backing is serious. This is a government-supported push to establish Tokyo as a permanent, globally recognised anime events destination — similar to what AnimeJapan does for the spring season but with a stronger international and creative focus. The official website is already live at tokyoanimenext.jp, and the secretariat can be reached at info2026@tokyoanimenext.jp — programme details are listed as “coming soon.”

Last words

Late October into early November is arguably the best time of year to be in Japan — autumn leaves, cooler temperatures, and now TOKYO ANIME NEXT to anchor the anime side of any trip. Ikebukuro already draws Singapore otaku in big numbers given its Animate flagship and the Sunshine City figure shops; adding a four-day curated anime festival to the mix makes the case for a late October 2026 Japan trip even stronger.

Programme details and ticketing are still to come from the official site. We will update this page when announcements drop. Keep an eye on our events page for the latest Japan and SG anime event news.
